THE “JIMMY SCENE”
from
“COMES A HORSEMAN”
It’s come to my attention that many of you have not seen “Comes A Horseman” or don’t know what we mean when we refer to the “Jimmy Scene.” Here’s my explanation...
In the episode, “Comes A Horseman” (episode 99), MacLeod confronts Methos in a moving and pivotal scene. The scene takes place outside Methos’s apartment house/condominium at the side of his SUV, a Chevrolet “Jimmy” (hence the name, “Jimmy Scene”).
Cassandra has told MacLeod about Methos’s activities as one of the Four Horseman. MacLeod doesn’t quite believe Cassandra, but she has been truthful to him in the past. He confronts Methos as the older Immortal is packing his SUV to leave town and escape Kronos.
[This is not a precise transcript, but only a paraphrase of the conversation.]
MacLeod: Did you kill all those people?
Methos: The times were different, MacLeod. The whole bloody world was different.
MacLeod: That isn’t enough.
Methos: What do you want to hear? I didn’t kill ten people; I didn’t kill a hundred people. I killed a thousand. I killed ten thousand. And I was good at it. And I didn’t kill for greed. I didn’t kill for revenge. I killed because I liked it.
Cassandra was nothing. Her village was nothing.
When mothers told their children that the monster would get them in the night, that was me. I was Death. Death on a horse.
Is that what you want to hear? Then the answer is yes. Oh, yes.
MacLeod: We’re through.
(Then ensues the coat throwing competition.)
